Bringing South Sudan to the world
Amanie Illfated (pronounced: ah-MAH-nee eel-fay-ted) is an award-winning South Sudanese-born international recording artist. Known for her dynamic multilingual tracks, she blends Afropop and R&B with her signature powerful yet sweet vocals. Drawing from her personal journey—including her experiences growing up as a refugee in Canada—Amanie infuses her music with messages of empowerment, healing, diversity, and joy. She has been described as the “African M.I.A.”
On July 9, 2023, Amanie released her highly anticipated sophomore album, DIVINE, accompanied by the music video for her single "Big Man (Zol Kebir)", which quickly gained traction. Her music continues to resonate with audiences globally, further cementing her reputation as a rising star in the international music scene.
Amanie has received several awards for her contributions to music. In 2024, she was named Best Diaspora Artist at the South Sudan Theatre Awards and won Best Styled Music Video of the Year at South Sudan Fashion Week. In 2021, she was awarded Best R&B Artist of the Year at the South Sudan Music Awards. She has collaborated with notable artists and producers, including Juno Award-winning producers TAABU and James Bryan (The Philosopher Kings, Prozzäk), as well as internationally recognized artists Emmanuel Jal and Yaba Angelosi. Her influence extends beyond music, as she has been featured in publications such as Canadian Musician and Bustle Magazine, the latter as part of PUMA’s She Moves Us Campaign.
Amanie’s dynamic performances have taken her to renowned festivals and venues worldwide. She has performed at Bagamoyo International Arts Festival in Tanzania, where she played for an audience that included Vice President Philip Mpango, as well as major events like Afrofest Toronto, Afrofest Omaha, TDotFest at Yonge-Dundas Square, and the African Descent Festival in Vancouver.
