So the African Entertainment Award show is literally just days away and I am unbelievably excited…
Aside from the first obvious question (what should I wear?) and the millions of questions that follow that (does this print match my lipstick? braids or curls? etc)… I was just thinking of how blessed I am to have such amazing people who have followed me through my journey so far. It’s been super tough building up my career and although the vision is still much bigger than where I am at right now, I am very grateful to have such amazing people traveling up with with me.
As many of you know, I started writing music in my basement in Regina, Saskatchewan at 9 years old, then moved to producing in the dark in my parents basement at 12. My parents did not like ANYTHING I did and therefore made me suffer many unbelievable abuses because of it. The gutsy risk I took at 16 to move to Toronto – the ‘BIG’ city – was the craziest thing I have ever done in my life, but it was also the best thing I have ever done in my life as it meant being right in the action. It’s been super complicated: I’ve met so many dream-killers, posers, ghosters and Weinstein-like characters all around in this industry; so many set backs – personally, professionally, financially etc… But there are 3 top reasons as to why I am still here today: #1) is by choosing not to let those crazy people or situations bring me down, #2) being stubborn as hell and #3) seeing all your amazing, positive support has pushed me to want to do better!
All of your positive messages, tweets, posts, shares and emails make me keep going. My vision is to show people that if you commit to your dreams, you can succeed no matter what your circumstances are, and all of your support helps me push to get that message out there. You are all a blessing!
So, I want to thank you all for being there for me through thick, thin, confusion and clarity. Without you, I wouldn’t be be here… ❤
